road tripping & kicking

Week 33 – the week I finish work.  OMG I can’t tell you how much I’ve looked forward to this day.  My last day official is the start of week 34.  Initially I was going to work through to week 36 and give myself 4 weeks before our due date however a few things changed my mind.  Firstly – the amount of stories I’ve heard about babies coming early and mums getting no time to themselves or to finishing preparing.  My bestie was one of them – gave herself 4 weeks before her due date – was sick with the flu for the first week, started to get organised then boom he arrived 2 weeks early.  Secondly, I would’ve had to work at a trade fair for work this coming weekend – which would’ve meant being on my feet for 5 days straight, for 10 hours a day – ummm no thanks – I want to have a working back after all of this.  Then thirdly – one of my gorgeous friends had her 30th birthday party this weekend in Canberra and seeing as though I’m not allowed to fly anymore there was no way I was going to make it if I had to drive on a Saturday and back Sunday.  So  – yup – my last day was last Thursday.  I made the decision to surprise Hannah for her birthday party and drive down and make a long weekend of it.  I haven’t been emotional at all this trimester but that night I cried from relief.  I felt like that day had been so far away for so long and it was finally here.  I huge relief off my shoulders.  I could finally focus on me and getting ready for this amazing little munchkin we’re about to bring in to the world.

So on Friday morning we set off.  The drive from Melbourne to Canberra is supposed to take 6.5 hours.  Except when you’ve got 1 pregnant person that needs to pee – a lot – and one restless fiancé that needs snack breaks – it took us 8 hours.  Unfortunately one of my best friends had ended up in hospital for emergency surgery Wednesday so we went straight there to see her.  Lucky we were coming up anyway.   Friday night – Chinese takeaway at Dad’s and one very busy baby.  Sitting on the sofa after dinner for a solid 2.5 hours our baby girl was on fire.  Dancing around like crazy.  She’s been so active these last few weeks and I feel like my belly is growing bigger every day but BOY this movement was next level.  Constant rolling, kicking, punching – for ages.  Now I’m not complaining – I LOVE her moving, it’s a great sign that she’s doing well and I love feeling her in there but seriously this was quite uncomfortable and at times a little painful.  Her little feet kicking my ribs like they were soccer balls – to the point where they are actually bruised.  It’s crazy what they get up to in there – and I wonder if this is a reflection of what she’s going to be like on the outside.  Chris and I are naturally high energy people so I think we may have a little hyperactive  girl on our hands.  Oh shit!!! This movement now hasn’t stopped haha.  She’s decided she wants out or she’s going to party like its 1999 in there until she does.

While we were in Canberra we also attended a little Wedding Expo which was fun.  We won’t tie the knot until late next year but it was great to get ideas on what we want and definitely on what we don’t want – and ended up finding out photographer so YAY one thing ticked off before the baby arrives.

Driving back now to Melbourne and yup- she’s at it again – my ribs are getting a beating – but you know what – she can kick as much as she likes.  38 days (or less or more…) until I get to cuddle you 24/7.
