The Figure Life

Babies-in-cot

Baby essentials 0-6 months

I get so many questions about what my go to items are as a mother of a new baby – or babies in my case.

So I’ve put together a list of items that have been life savers in the first 6 months of having not only twins but babies.

Whether you’re a first time parent, or 4th – seeing what works for others means less stress thinking about what you need. Also coming from someone that already had one child I knew what I didn’t want – and what I wanted again.

I’ve listed all my discount codes down the bottom too so you can grab yourself a bargain at the same time.

My one little tip around clothes would be this – don’t. buy any. I mean buy a few onesies and singlets – but actual “outfits” I wouldn’t bother. I found it far too hard to try and dress them in outfits. It was onesies all day every day – easy to put on, easy for nappy changes – because at night time or when you’re tired – and the baby is crying – you don’t want to be fussing over leggings or that cute cardigan. Not until they’re at least 6 months anyway. (that’s just me)

These items were lifesavers.

Cacoonababy nests:

We didn’t have these with Harper but my golly I LOVED them for the twins.  Not only did it mean we could have them sleep anywhere and know they were safe – as it has the chest strap.  The fact that they are on an angle which means less likely hood of any sort of reflux, and able to be put safely in a cot was a huge tick from us.  We used these until the twins were around 3 months and started rolling around more.

You can get the Cacoonababy nests from The Stork Nest.

Bunnie-Caddie:

We had 2 (one upstairs in our room & one downstairs)

These are amazing – store all your goodies in there in one spot, nappies, wipes, creams, spit up cloths, change of clothes, water bottle, snacks.

We also (still) take these travelling with us.  I had one at the hospital, we’ve taken them on holiday so we have everything in one spot.

Available at Bunnie Caddie

Change mats:

I have 2 very similar products – both of which I love.  The reason being they are easy to clean, easy to move around the house and are also aesthetically pleasing.

Leander Matty – available from Danish from Design
Shnuggle mat – available from The Stork nest

Quax Baby rockers:

 I used these a lot.

Especially with 2 babies and a toddler it was nice to know the babies were comfy and safe at all times – and oh so cute.

They also match my rocking chair in my room.

Available from Danish by Design

Leander Cots, chest of drawers and change table:

I love our cots and change set up.  The size was important for me as Harper was in her cot until she was 3.  It was also important that they become toddler beds and the sides can come off.  These ticked all the boxes.  Available in 2 sizes.  Initially we had them on the other side of the room from each other when they used to share a cot – but now they’re side by side so they can see each other. Cuties.

From Danish by Design.

Skip Hop Activity Centres:

Someone used the term “circle of neglect” which made me giggle when Harper had hers.

It’s kind of true, but you pop them in there and they love it. Gives you a good chunk of time to get stuff done and know they’re safe and having fun. From about 4.5 months.

They are great because they have fun things to entertain them and then turn into a table when they’ve outgrown them.  So great for all stages.

Available from The Stork Nest.

Beaba milkio:

Life saver.  Basically a coffee machine for formula.  No more working out what temperature the water should be, scooping out formula to make bottles.  Quick easy and efficient.  The water only function is good for trips out and about too so the water is perfect.

Available from The Stork Nest

MisSta:

Another life saver.  A thermos style bottle with a thermometer which keeps the water at exactly the right temperature for their bottles for 12 hours.

We would take this upstairs for their overnight bottles to save coming downstairs.  Great for out and about, the aeroplane, travel.

Available from Missta

Bumbleride Indie twin Pram

It took me so long to find a pram I was happy with and was stoked when we found this.

Simple to use – easy to fold in one piece which was a must for me.  Capsule compatible, Fits through single doorways, a good amount of storage and is also great for running. It also has the skateboard option which is fab for Harper.

Available at Bumbleride.

Love to Dream:

A go to I used with Harper and the twins.

Knowing my babies are warm and safe while asleep is a must for me.

From newborn, to arms out to sleeping bags and toddler suits. Harper still wears her at almost 4 years old.

Available at Love to Dream

Jak Organics:

I wouldn’t use any other wipe on my kids.

Organic, Australian, biodegradable, safe and great quality.

Aqua wipes are fab for wee’s and spill, baby wipes great for poo’s, anti bac are great for on the go.

Available from Jak Organics.

Vatea:

The most beautiful skin care for my babies.

Their baby oil, baby balm, baby moisturiser and baby bath wash come everywhere with me.

Their range for mums too is great – their hand cream, shampoo and conditioner amongst my faves.

I have used Vatea on all my babies.

Boon drying rack:

The simplest, tidiest way to dry your bottles.  A must have if you bottle feed.

Available at Baby Bunting.

Happy Sleepers

Christine saved my life with Harper.  At 5 months Harper was waking multiple times a night, was a nightmare to put down, unpredictable and we were losing our minds and were exhausted.  I did anything to get her to sleep – rocked her, fed her, co slept. It wasn’t working for us.

I engaged Christine’s help and within 3 days she was falling asleep independently within 5 minutes, and by day 14 she was sleeping through the night.

It was a no brainer to follow the program with the twins from day one.  It was so much easier from the start.

They slept through the night at 12 weeks and have been fabulous sleepers ever since.  The best gift – the gift of sleep.
