just gotta keep moving

So something else started happening while we were in Bali – I was getting super tired.  Chris was completely confused – considering the most we’d done was walk from the Villa to dinner each day – (on top of my 20 minute power sessions).  I opened up my pregnancy app Pregnancy +  There are loads out there but I like this one – you put in your due day etc and it tells you what’s happening in your body at what point, you can add photos of your belly each month, your scans, it shows you how big your baby is, and has a great baby name section.  Super cool – and Chris even likes to check it out from time to time.

Anyway – so I opened it on Friday when I hit 6 weeks pregnant and “my daily article” (yup they do this too – so cool) was about being tired.  Phew – I wasn’t just getting used to villa life.  I mean it makes sense right – I’m growing another human inside me – pretty tiring.  A lot of people when they get tired though automatically think of sleeping.  Now of course this is a great option – and there is nothing wrong with a Nana nap – and the last thing you want to do is exercise but did you know that low to mid intensity exercise actually boosts energy levels.  Keeping active is such a great way to stay alert and energetic by strengthening the circulation and the heart (I mean it is a muscle) and in return improve energy levels.  So – just when you think you may catch 40 winks – try getting up and working out a little- even just a brisk walk can do wonders.  The fitter and healthier I can stray during my pregnancy the easier I’m hoping it will be after to get back in to shape.

The other thing that’s been on my mind while we’ve been in Bali is keeping this pregnancy a secret.  Before I mis-carried last time we had told a fair few close friends and family.  The worst part was having to tell them the sad news – to be honest I felt like a bit of a failure.  I knew there was nothing I could’ve done but I think it’s an instinct thing.   So this time we’re keeping it a bit closer to home until our first scan in 10 days and we know everything is as it should be.   Whilst in Bali it wasn’t so hard – I mean I didn’t have my friends around me so the odd snap chat with a mocktail and I’m sure they are convinced nothing is out of the ordinary.  Now that were back though – this is where it will get a little more tricky.  I’m supposed to be going to Fat Boy Slim in 2 weeks with a girlfriend who loves to have a few vodkas and a boogie – not sure how I’m going to get around this one.  I am a sharer though so I have had to be really careful not to let it slip to my closest friends – I feel a little bad keeping it from them but I know it’s for the best.

We are almost back home from our amazing holiday so it’s back to reality for me.  Before I start my new job on Thursday – and try and keep the pregnancy a secret, “oh I’m doing dry January…..” I really want to get some meal prep meals ready to go.  The more preparation you can do with your meals and the more structure you have around your health – the easier it is to stay in check.  I try and keep it really clean during the week and then give myself 1-2 days where I make sure we have things that are super yummy – regardless of the calorie content.  In saying that – I do avoid fast food and things that are cooked fully in oil.  Foods high in saturated fat do tend to make me feel more lethargic – and honestly – I’d rather have a home made lasagne than a big mac anyway.

I’ve popped a couple of pictures from my meal prep this week.  Pop over to the recipes page to check them out.  One of my favourites is my grain salad with salmon.  Easy to make ahead of time, packed full of nutrients and super tasty.  Remember the key is to eat little and often – keep that metabolism pumping.
