Our twins turned 3

The Twins 3rd Birthday

Our twins turned 3!!! Get out of town!! When did that happen! To check out their first birthday blog have a read HERE.

Their first year of life felt like it went so slowly – it was amazing. Then their second seemed to speed up.

This year – has flown by. It has been a big year personally, professionally and emotionally and I wonder if that’s why.

Either way – we have 2 x 3 year olds and our hearts are so full.

So I didn’t do the whole shebang – toddler party this year. Nor did I have toddler friendly activities available. I also didn’t do any kids party favours either – which I think I’ll have to do for Harpers party unfortunately for me. We kept it super low key.

The year that is….

2024 has been a big year already and our 4th little munchkin is going to be with us in around 4 weeks. August is also a big month for us already – with my birthday on the 12th (and this year we went to the snow for the weekend), Harper’s birthday on the 30th (but we’re having her party a week early because of Father’s Day) and then yes – Father’s Day on the 1st September.

The thought of hosting 2 big birthday parties – had me stressed just thinking about it. So we decided just a low key one for the twins at home, then Harper can have a get together in the park for hers.

The get together

This might sound cheeky but luckily lots of our friends were away the weekend of their birthday – so we ended up having such a small intimate day which was absolutely perfect.

At 34 weeks pregnant even just organising a party was enough work.

In usual Danni style I wanted to make sure we had beautiful food that was delicious but also nourishing. I did

  • Roast lamb with smashed roast potatoes and a lemon yoghurt dip
  • Veggie platter with home made hummus and beetroot dip
  • Fruit platter
  • Feta and honey pinwheels
  • Sourdough and a sun-dried tomato and cheese sourdough loaf
  • Sourdough rosemary and parmesan crackers with 2 types of cheese and a quince

The CAKES!

Of course we had cakes. Last year I went to the trouble of making 2 full size cakes for them – with almost all of it leftover and thrown away.

This year – firstly I didn’t want to make them – I’m not good at decorating so best to outsource. Also I thought cupcakes are better as we can have 2 designs, and people can take them away if needed.

So I contacted the amazing Sarah from Miss Noble to take on the task. And she nailed it.

Minnie Mouse and Spider man was the brief. Raspberry and vanilla for Harlow’s Minnie Mouse and Chocolate for Beau’s Spider man ones.

The Presents:

We got asked a lot what we got the twins for their 3rd birthdays. Chris goes a bit mad with presents – I’m sure it’s an English thing. I also didn’t want to get them clothes as they already have so many – especially Harlow with the hand me downs. Presents from us included:

  • Spider man and Disney princess tents from Kmart
  • Pyjamas
  • Shoes from Kmart – Harlow got rainbow ones that light up, and Beau got dinosaur ones
  • Duplo each – Peppa Pig and Cars
  • A book each
  • A educational game each
  • Harlow got a bubble wand and a large Minnie Mouse teddy. She also got some clips, a little handbag and some bracelets
  • Beau got a spider man toy, a buzz lightyear and a some spider man jocks
  • They both got some colouring pads and pencils and crayons
  • They both got a pair of Winnie the Pooh shoes
  • They both got a Manchester United Kit – which is a tradition – every child gets one each year – it’s a Daddy thing.

3 years down

Our twins turned 3. 3 years down. I feel like this is where kids start to grow up too much for me. They go from cute toddlers to finding their place in the world, finding their voice, their opinions and the baby slowly goes. Maybe this is why I’m having another. To hold on to that.

It’s an absolute privilege and honour to watch your kids grow up. For me and Chris – we try and do as much as a family together as possible. Include them in as much as we can, give them all the opportunities we can and show them how much we love them.

We are definitely a physical touch family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Happy Birthday my darlings xox
