looking after me

It’s our 4th day in Bali – we leave tomorrow night.  I did try and tell Chris that I refuse to leave and would protest and tie myself to the villa but I didn’t win that argument.

My boobs continue to grow – I’m totally not used to it either.  I’m usually a 32B – some people say teeny tiny titties, I say – I can get away with not wearing a bra, lying on my stomach and side no problem and buying size 6-8 sets of bikini’s and clothes.  Pregnancy dilemma number 1 – and look I get it lots of you out there probably already have this problem and you’re not pregnant  – so lucky you.

I first really noticed it lying in bed the other day on my side – usually my boobs would be the last thing causing discomfort but holy moly – they had a mind of their own – hanging there like fruit on a tree.  Chris thinks I’ve lost it, because these are a new phenomenon for me – I look and play with them much more than I did before – and look – he does too.  Then yesterday we took a stroll into Seminyak where I found a great bikini.  I picked off my usual size small off the rack – tried it on.  The bottoms fit perfectly – however – the top – yeh – there was no way I could squeeze these new melons in to that size small top.  Here came the issue – do you think she sold them in separates – so I could get a small bottom and a medium top – no – of course not.  I figured my ass is probably going to get bigger anyway during the next few months so went with the medium – something which I have never brought but totally embraced.

Before – 32B not a boob care in the world
After….not sure of the size to be honest – but how good is that new bikini

That’s something that I’m consciously doing during this time – embracing the changes.  I’ve always been so used to having so much control over my body that letting go is something that I must do.  This way I’m hoping to not only enjoy the experience but make sure my baby is first priority.  Looking after myself is key.  On that note we went for the most amazing massage yesterday.  My favourite place is Spring Spa They have 3 locations in Bali – we go to the one opposite The W Hotel.  Not only is the setting gorgeous, their staff are beautiful and every person that I’ve had has been just as good as the next.  We had booked in for a couples massage and as with most things I had to let them know I was pregnant.  Now here’s a new thing I learnt (you learn so much a long the way – so those of you out there who have no idea – neither do I – we can learn together) when you’re pregnant they massage you on your side – instead of your belly.  This way they don’t push too hard in the wrong spots.  I didn’t mind it too much – although my boobs were falling again, she still managed to get in to those stubborn shoulder knots.

Massage is something I try and get once a month even when back home.  If I’m training for a run I will try to make it once a fortnight.  This is one way that I make sure I look after my muscles.  This as well as stretching – but more about that in a second.  Not only is massage a great way to release tension in your muscles, especially when you’re working out and using your muscles constantly, but it’s also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, headaches and for me – it’s an hour that I can let my thoughts run away with me and not worry about the outside world.  These moments are precious – and I can only imagine they will become more precious once our baby is born.

Stretching is also super important.  Over the last few months I’ve done some gym sessions with a few different friends and a couple with Chris.  Something that horrified me was that no one that I trained with stretched afterwards.  Having come from a ballet background stretching for me is the most important part of a work out – if you don’t have time to stretch – you don’t have time to work out in my opinion.  When you train you contract and release your muscles multiple times making them work harder and harder.  Like you would service your car after you drive it you need to make sure you service your body.  It increases the blood flow to the muscles, ensures your muscles stay flexible and strong, and can prevent injuries.  Without stretching muscles can become tight and short – in turn restricting movement.  As we age this becomes increasing important.  No one wants to be bent over old person with a walker – so commit to putting at least 10 minutes aside after each work out to stretch.  One of my 2018 resolutions – to make Chris stretch after each work out – I’ll let you know how I go.

I’ve popped a little video below of one of my many stretching sessions. Give yourself a goal – remember McKenna….she couldn’t touch her toes until this week – now she can.   Persistence is all that is needed…..and a Bali Villa helps too.
