There’s loads of things that Chris and I have in common, health, fitness, being adventurous, good food and we both love to travel. For our 1 year anniversary in January Chris was naughty and brought me a trip to Queenstown for April. We had said no presents – as we’d just come back from our 4 week trip to the USA and Bali – but the romantic man that he is, got me one anyway.
So on Wednesday we left for Queenstown. We had come in late September last year and fell in love with it. On that trip we had looked in a couple of jewellery stores – but just for fun – and I did see an absolutely gorgeous ring at one place – but didn’t think much else of it.
We had booked to do a tour of the Milford sound for Thursday – which included a glacier landing in a helicopter, but when we went to confirm it Thursday morning it had been cancelled due to bad weather. Chris spoke with concierge and they suggested a hike up Queensland Hill Walkway. We were in the mood to do something active so this sounded great. Apparently there were great views at the top. Well – it wasn’t quite a hill…more of a bloody huge mountain – and at 5 months pregnant it wasn’t easy. Every 50 metres I had to stop and catch my breath – it’s amazing what growing a baby can do to your heart rate. About 4 times during the hike I said to Chris, “do we have to go to the top?” to which he was very insistent each time – saying yes we do. We even got to a lookout spot and I said surely this view was good enough – but no he wanted to go right to the top. I said as long as he didn’t mind me stopping every now and then – fine I would – he seemed so keen to go.
We finally made it to the top and it was worth it. The views across Queenstown and across Lake Wakatipu were magnificent. We took a lot of photos and then Chris asked for me to sit on a rock and look over at the view for a photo. I’m a bit oblivious when it comes to things like this and did as I was told. After about 20-30 seconds of just sitting wondering what the hell he was doing -thinking surely he’d taken enough photos – I heard a cough. I turned around and there – down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand was my love – asking me to be his wife. It took me a second to work out what was going on, he said the most beautiful words and it was so romantic.
I had a slight inkling he may do it over here but didn’t think too much in to it. I thought with everything that’s going on surely he wouldn’t – with the baby and the car. He told me he had been planning since last time we were over here in September – contacting the jewellers to have a ring made especially and organising it all that time.
I still can’t stop smiling – I am so grateful for everything I have – a beautiful baby girl on the way and this gorgeous man by my side – soon to be my husband. I don’t need anything else.
Now , after 2 days off the gym – ok well we hiked for 3 hours 1 day so I don’t feel so bad – but it’s back to the gym today. We’ve been really treating ourselves over here with meals so it’s back on the bandwagon. The baby has been kicking so much more this week – Chris and I even saw her move not just felt it. It’s magical.
