and then there were 3….

Right so – before I resigned from my old job Chris and I booked this huge holiday – so yes we’ve been in the USA for 3 weeks – quickly back to Canberra (where the fam bam is) for what was supposed to be my mums 60th birthday, instead turned in to my mum and her partners surprise wedding.  Now we are in Bali for 5 nights.  We are staying at One Eleven Villa’s in Seminyak.  They only have 9 villas so it’s super personal, in a perfect location and they are just divine.  Don’t worry my life isn’t always like this – I wish.

So I wanted to let you guys in on something that happens to so many women but isn’t talked about.  Before this positive pregnancy test, we had a mis carriage.  So – I had been on the pill since I was 15 years old – that’s 17 years.  Like so many women out there I thought – there’s no way I’ll get pregnant straight away – I’ve been on the pill for too long – blah blah blah.  So it was a little surprise to find out that 4 weeks after coming off the pill my period hadn’t come.  Chris claimed it was his super sperm – look possibly true – but also we both don’t smoke, he doesn’t drink and I’d been training for a marathon prior to coming off the pill so was super heathy.  Anyway – it happened and it happened straight away.  We found out on a Tuesday – 12 days after my period was due – and we were both elated.  3 days later – I woke with terrible cramps and blood.  More blood than I’d ever experienced in a normal period – I didn’t have to be a doctor to realise what was happening.  It had all happened so quickly that my emotions were all over the place.  Although some women do hold on to babies after coming straight off the pill – my doctor advised my body probably hadn’t had a chance to start producing enough progesterone and it was my bodies way of telling me this foetus wasn’t the one.  1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage – and as much as it was devastating and at that time not much was making me feel better – it was refreshing to hear the statistics and the text from nana saying she had also experienced a mis carriage.  My point being – it happens a lot, and no one wants a bad egg 😉

So we started trying again and voila!  Ok I did insist we had sex every 2 days for a month but hey – it worked – and who’s complaining anyway.

So where was I – oh yes – Bali.  We arrived last night and having not really worked out in 3 weeks I really need to make sure this week was about looking after me.  Some things I am unable to control at this stage – for example.  I have gotten terrible skin in the last week – I’ve heard an old wives tale that says that if you get bad skin it means you’re having a girl and she’s taking away all your beauty – she better be bloody gorgeous if that’s the case – as I look like a teenager again.

I’ve brought my Figure Bands and just because I’m on holiday doesn’t mean I can’t work out. So many people think you need a gym, a treadmill, or even shit loads of cardio to stay in shape – but guess what – you don’t.  All you need is your mind, 20 mins and maybe a 3×3 metre space.  And for anyone who’s like – but I’m on holiday – not only is it 20 mins our of you day – When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.  That’s a lot of benefits from a 20 minute work out right there and an extra happy holiday.

I’ve popped a couple of quick exercises below – super easy to do.  10-15 repetitions of each exercise – and 3 rounds. Nice slow movements to make sure you really feel the burn.

On that note – I’d usually head for a sugary cocktail right now but it’s sparkling water and a stroll in to town with my man.  Oh did I mention my skin is terrible……

Forever grateful – love & life

Danni – the Figure x

Hip thrusts – feet and knees hip width apart – really squeeze those buns.

Side plank – engage abs and make sure you’re nice and straight

Crunches – only your shoulders off the ground – engage your core try not to use your neck to lift you up
Squats – bootie out the back, try not to let your knees move forward of your toes, back as upright as possible. Also – don’t stress if you can’t get your ass to the grass like so many people say – I have super short Achilles tendons so this is as far as this gal is going.

Push ups – start on your knees if you can’t do a full one yet.  Make sure your bum isn’t in the air.
Back leg raises – back up right, squeeze your butt

Probably my favourite exercise – as it works everything – arms, shoulders, abs, guts.  Bum down in line with your body and legs hip width apart.

Adductor clams (I really need to come up with a better name for those) really squeeze those buns and engage your core

Oblique crunches – try and touch each foot – legs hip width apart

1 legged hit raises – try and keep your raised leg in line with your other leg and really squeeze your butt

Ab leg drops – make sure these are really nice and slow and you get a full range of movement to really feel it throughout your core
