The Twins 1st Birthday

The Twins First Birthday Party
Preparation

The thought of organising this had me going crazy.  I wanted it to be super special but I’m always so conscious that I want people to have a good time.

The theme thing always gets me – I’m not all over things like that – I kinda wing it and do my own thing but I figured I needed something to based colours off etc.

The babies have had Peter Rabbit and Flopsy bunnies since they were newborns and we’re big Peter Rabbit fans in this house  – so that was easy.  The alternative was Winnie the Pooh but we’d done that for Harper’s first birthday.

So I hit it off with:

The Cake:
I figured for their first birthday seeing as though they won’t eat it anyway – we’d just go with a joint cake.  Moving forward we most probably will do 2 (I may take that back don’t hold me to it haha).  So the brief for our beautiful cake maker Sarah from Miss Noble was – Peter Rabbit and Flopsy bunny – Peter Rabbit themed.  She then suggested I compliment it with some cupcakes with little carrots on as well as cake pops to match and tie in.  I mean – I would NEVER have thought about adding things like that to keep the theme through the catering.

As you can see she absolutely nailed the brief.  We went with a white chocolate and raspberry cake which was just absolutely divine.

The props:

I had follow Kristy from partyhirebykiks for a while and she had recently had twins as well so I totally had to use some of her beautiful props.  The candy cart was my absolute fave.  She was so wonderful and her husband dropped it all off – put it together for us and picked it up later in the week.  Seamless and perfect.  She also organised the decal on the board to tie in perfectly – one less thing I had to worry about.
It looked epic!

THE BALLOONS:

For some reason organising balloons always stresses me out.

I get worried I’m not articulating what I want and I’m pretty chill in the end but I suck at giving directions.  Karen at Lombard has helped me out before with balloons so I knew she’d get me.

She was so conscious to make it so special she went that extra mile.  Even throwing in a bunch for the front of the house.  The balloons just made it pop.

CINNAMON SCROLLS:

One of my favourite desserts.

When Cinnamon Scent reached out and said they’d love to gift some for the twins birthday as if I was ever going to say no.

They were made fresh and so soft and delicious.

THE COOKIES:

Dani from Sweetcheeks Cookies and Cakes had helped me out with cookies for Harper’s first birthday 3 years ago so she was my first point of call for cookies.

I presented her with my vague brief and she absolutely nailed it too.

In my head fitting the number 1, the twins’ names, and carrots on a cookie was almost impossible – but that’s why I’m not a cookie maker. They looked fab.

THE CATERING:

Melbourne businesses have had it tough in this space over the last 2 years so I really wanted to go with a small business.  I found Simone from Taylor Made Gourmet and she was so helpful and made the process so easy.  The food arrived with all instructions about how to put it together to present and it was so delicious.

Milestone boards and time capsules:

I love doing these for the kids.  I literally just jump on to Etsy and search the theme I’m looking for and “milestone board” and up they come.  Most places then have an associated time capsule where every guest can write a wish for the birthday boy or girl (or both haha) and it’s put away to open when they’re 18.  Such a special thing to do.

ENJOY THE PROCESS

When you have epic businesses to work with it definitely makes your life easier and everyone had the best time. There was plenty of food and treats and although the babies weren’t the best on the day – I was so surprised Harlow let multiple people give her cuddles so it took the pressure off me.

I hope that helps you with your next birthday party – I’m a pretty chill person in the lead up but on the day I do like everything perfect – I say it’s because I care.  Then remember to enjoy the day you created and enjoy the creations you made – and I mean your little one.
